Teaching and Speaking
For more than two decades, I have taught in hospitals, classrooms, clinics, community organizations, conference halls, retreat centers, circles gathered in the woods and around kitchen tables.
My teaching grows out of practice.
It emerges from accompanying people through illness, grief, caregiving, recovery, identity, spiritual questioning, community change, and the many thresholds that shape a human life.
Whether working with healthcare professionals, chaplains, clergy, students, caregivers, activists, or community members, I am interested in helping people cultivate the skills, perspectives, and practices needed to remain present to themselves and others during times of uncertainty and transformation.
Areas of Teaching
My teaching often explores:
• Spiritual care and chaplaincy
• Grief, loss, and meaning-making
• Serious illness, palliative care, and end-of-life support
• Ritual, ceremony, and contemplative practice
• Community care and collective resilience
• Gender-affirming spiritual care
• Spiritual care for LGBTQ+ communities
• Moral distress, compassion fatigue, and clinician wellbeing
• Multi-faith earth based spiritual practices and traditions rooted in over three decades of Celtic practice
• Thresholds, transition, and human transformation

A teaching philosophy
I believe that meaningful learning happens when information, experience, reflection, and relationship come together.
My goal is not simply to share knowledge, but to create learning environments that are relational, practical, engaging, and grounded in lived experience.
Whether speaking to a conference audience, facilitating a workshop, or mentoring emerging leaders, I hope participants leave with greater clarity, deeper compassion, and concrete practices they can bring into their lives and work.
Selected Organizations & Communities
My teaching has taken place in hospitals, universities, professional associations, faith communities, community organizations, and national conferences.
Recent presentations and collaborations have included UCSF, Sojourn Chaplaincy, The San Francisco Department of Public Health, the Association of Professional Chaplains, USPATH, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, HealthCare Chaplaincy Network, the San Francisco General Hospital, and the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab.
